The Arena hand-painted ceramic mug imitates the multiple colors of sand in Colombia’s desert and dry forest regions. Arena, meaning sand in Spanish. Earth’s diverse mineral composition is what gives sand their distinct colors, varying from deep terracottas to a spectrum of oranges, yellows, magentas, and greys.

Inspired by Zuahaza textiles, these hand-painted ceramics are a fusion of classic craftsmanship and contemporary design. To make this possible, Zuahaza collaborated with 2 esteemed workshops in the town of Carmen de Viboral, a beacon of traditional hand painting of intricate motifs on white ceramic. Each piece is a testament to the artistry of the community and their rich heritage.
